Terms of Use

Effective date: 21 July 2026. Uplink Trace is operated by Altered Horizon Ventures of Montréal, Québec, Canada ("we", "us"). These terms govern your use of the site and its API. By using the service you accept them; if you do not accept them, do not use the service. Our handling of the limited data we process is described separately in the privacy policy.

1. What the Service Does

Uplink Trace lets you trace an IP address by combining two kinds of public information: network data (ASN, AS operator name, and registrant drawn from the public registries maintained by the regional internet registries, plus reverse DNS resolved through the global DNS) and approximate geolocation estimates supplied by third-party databases, rendered on open map data. The result is a dossier describing the probable area and network operator associated with an address, with an honest confidence rating. The mechanics are explained in how IP geolocation works.

The service reports on networks, not people. IP geolocation cannot identify an individual, a household, or a street address, and nothing in the service should be read as attempting to.

2. Accuracy

All geolocation output is an estimate. Country-level results are usually reliable; region- and city-level results are frequently wrong, and results for mobile, VPN, satellite, and corporate networks can be wrong by hundreds or thousands of kilometres. Our published accuracy figures are set out in how accurate is IP geolocation. Flags such as "LIKELY VPN" or "LIKELY datacenter" are heuristics inferred from the AS operator name; they are indications, never proof.

The service and all data it presents are provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Do not rely on the service for any decision with legal, financial, or safety consequences.
