What an IP lookup returns
Enter any public IPv4 or IPv6 address above and Uplink Trace compiles a dossier from public network records. An IP lookup does not reveal who is behind an address — it reveals which network the address belongs to, who operates that network, and where that network's infrastructure probably sits. Each field below comes from a named public source, and each estimate carries an honest confidence rating.

How much to trust the location
Country-level results are reliable — roughly 95 to 99 percent accurate. Region and city are looser: 55 to 80 percent and 50 to 75 percent respectively on fixed broadband, and frequently wrong for mobile, VPN, and satellite connections. That is why every trace shows a confidence radius instead of a pin on a doorstep. The details are in how accurate IP geolocation really is.
When an IP address lookup is useful
- Checking a suspicious address. An IP pulled from an email header or firewall log can be traced to its network and registrant in seconds. If a "local bank" notice originates from a hosting provider on another continent, you have learned something useful. For whole log files, use the log analyzer or bulk lookup.
- Verifying a VPN exit. Look up your own address while connected and confirm the ASN belongs to your VPN provider rather than your ISP.
- Investigating scraper traffic. Requests claiming to be ordinary visitors but resolving to datacenter ASNs are a classic tell of automated crawling.
One thing an IP lookup cannot do: identify a person or a street address. Addresses map to networks, not people — see can someone find my address from my IP for exactly where the trail ends.
